It is an effort by the Canada Afghanistan Solidarity Committe. Here is a list of the participants. The CASC wants us to have a real conversation about Canada's Afghanistan policy instead of the bleating by the opposition about the detainees , about which the grits have a lot to hide. It was a great event with MP Paul Dewar, Senator Wallin and HM Minister of Citizenship Jason Kenney in attendance. The CASC has released a report on what Canada should do in Afghanistan. It is well worth reading. I will try and post video when...

We really are the American's best friends and closest allies. 78% of Americans poll would defend us if there was an attack. Great Britain comes a close second. France doesn't fare so well in this Rasmussen poll. The Anglosphere is alive and kicking. We should have a free trade deal among the countries of the Anglosphere including India. In first place in terms of countries America should assist is Canada. Seventy-eight percent (78%) favor aiding our northern neighbor in the event of an attack, and just 16% disagree.Next comes Great Britain, but then it’s been more than two centuries since America fought its way free of the Mother Country. Seventy-three percent (73%) think the United States should provide military help for Britain if it is attacked, but nearly one-in-five Americans (18%)...

This article applies to Canada as well. Why are we all so eager to go into billions of dollars of deficit spending? When have these stimuli ever worked? In a time of tight money, it seems silly for the government to have to borrow a lot of money. Won't it just choke off commercial lending even more. I still oppose a deficit and I am not at all sure theses stimulii are anything more than huge government pork programs. I also agree with Goldberg that perhaps cutting payroll taxes immediately might be a good idea. The real reason the stimulus package will be gigantic is not that the smartest people with the best ideas say it needs to be. It's that Obama's real priority is to get the bill out as quickly as possible, which means every constituency gets something, including Republicans. Indeed,...

The UN human rights commission( which is a joke) has once again passed a biased resolution against Israel. Canada alone stood against it. Good for us. Good for HM Canadian Government.UN Rights Council Condemns Israeli Action in GazaBy Lisa Schlein Geneva12 January 2009Palestinians who fled their homes eat at a United Nations school where they are sheltering in the Jebaliya refugee camp, northern Gaza Strip, Monday, 12 Jan. 2009The 47-member U.N. Human Rights Council strongly condemns Israel for its military operation in Gaza and for what it said was gravely violating the human rights of the Palestinians. The resolution also calls for an independent fact-finding mission to investigate all violations of international human rights law. The resolution was drafted by Arab, Asian and African...

Surprise , surprise a lefty canadian union wants Hm Canadian government to condemn Israel's moves to defend itself. Fortunately HM Government is going to do no such thing.“Israel has a clear right to defend itself against the continued rocket attacks by Palestinian militant groups which have deliberately targeted civilians," Cannon said. "First and foremost, those rocket attacks must stop. At the same time, we urge both sides to use all efforts to avoid civilian casualties and to create the conditions to allow safe and unhindered humanitarian access to those in need in Gaza." Harper's longstanding support for Israel was recognized on December 4 when the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations awarded Harper with its first International Leadership Award....

The Iranian mullahs have been defeated in their attempts to hide their despicable actions. Canada has defeated their plans.Iran's bid to avoid censure blocked by Canadian-led campaignA Canadian-led campaign chalked up a big victory over Iran at the United Nations yesterday, winning significant backing to block the Islamic republic's bid to avoid censure over its human rights record. In a 70-51 vote with 60 abstentions, a key UN General Assembly committee threw out Iran's call for countries not to even consider a long list of alleged human rights abuses. Only last year, Iran came within two votes of having the censure sidelined with a motion that played to the distaste many UN member states have for resolutions that pick on one country -- because some feel they may be next....

A wonderful quote from HM PM John Diefenbaker ( a stalwart defender of the Canadian Crown)!"I am a Canadian,a free Canadian, free to speak without fear, free to worship God in my own way, free to stand for what I think right, free to oppose what I believe wrong, free to choose those who shall govern my country. This heritage of freedom I pledge to upholdfor myself and for all mankind."- John DiefenbakerHouse of Common Debates, July 1, 1960*( h/t Kathy Shaidle! If you want to know why unions should be abolished, simply look at history. You won't have to turn too many pages in a British history book to see the devastation caused to the prosperity and well-being of Britain by trade unions throughout the 1970s and 1980s. If it hadn't been for Margaret Thatcher, Britain today could well have an economy very much like Zimbabwe's – and it would all be due to trade unions and their short-sightedness. Air Canada, unfortunately, is going through yet another bad patch. As a result, it has had to implement a number of...

It is nice to know that many Afghans are grateful to HM Canadian troops for helping them.Yet, Mr. Khaksar says life is getting better for Afghans -- and he gives a lot of the credit to Canadian soldiers stationed here."I'm very happy with the Canadians, they are doing very well in Afghanistan especially the provincial reconstruction team," said Khaksar, 52 who became district leader last year. "They ask people about their problems. They really want to know what the people need."Khaksar's praise is not given lightly. He expects his enthusiastic support for the Canadian mission could get him killed by insurgents. The Taliban tried in 2004, he said, and they will no doubt try again: "I know that someday, they will kill me."...

With the price of oil and gasoline at all time highs, it was only a matter of time before industries start charging extra. One sector in particular, airlines, have been particularly hit hard by the high price of oil. If you plan on traveling by air this summer, looks like you’ll be paying a few more dollars for the luxury.

I was involved in something on Saturday evening that had me pondering what people were thinking. When I checked in to the Canadian North counter in Edmonton and was informed that the plane would be holding for about 10 minutes while we waited for some connecting passengers to arrive. OK, so that is fair. The problem? That 10 minutes turned into almost an hour. Now I would like to know whose decision it was to make 25 paying customer wait for an hour in a plane waiting for 7 connecting passengers arriving into Edmonton on an Air Canada flight. Why would you inconvenience 25 of your own customers to wait on customers of another airline? And if you were going to wait that long why would you make your passengers sit on the plane the entire time? If we are supposed to make it to the...
