The lady who wants doctors to kill her with her husband is very troubling to me.As a physician, I oppose doctor assisted funeral. I will not institute heroic measures and will relieve suffering but Idon't think physicians, whose job is to perserve life should be seen as executioners by their patiens. It is even more troubling in this case. The wife is relatively healthy. This is in essence a form of voluntary sati. The idea of murdering a healthy individual is doubly revolting. Most people who want doctor assisted suicide have not ther pain and suffering dealt with by their caregivers. I got this comment on my post against Doctor assisted suicide, from one of my favourite commentators. It is worth repeating:'been around the block has left a new comment on your post "I am in the minority again, but I am right": Canadians are on a slippery slope, hurtling toward the swamp like a greased weasel.Although I don't agree with "heroics" when it is clear that someone is close to death, I'm with you, Dr. Roy, in abhorring doctor-assisted suicide. There is just too much conflict of interest in family members deciding, often "on behalf of" their loved one, that it's time to pull the plug "for their loved one's sake."
