Queenstown is a lead character in Bollywood’s latest runaway box office hit, I Hate Luv Storys starring Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor. Movie goers in India and across the world got to see Luv Story for the first time this weekend.
I Hate Luv Storys -- a romantic comedy starring Indian heart-throbs Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor -- has been ranked India’s 12th best net grossing movie of all time on opening day. The movie, which premiered in India on Friday 2 July 2010, saw big city movie theatres filling to the brim. The film is also proving to be a big hit outside of India. Internationally, it has provided the biggest opening day ever for filmstar Imran Kahn.

Banana Booty is one of 10 grand-prize winners in HBO’s Flight of the Conchords Lip Dub Fansterpiece contest.
The contest called for fans to submit short films designed to show reverance to the hit HBO comedy series.
Pitzer College senior Justin Weitzel just happened to have a gorilla suit in his car and came across the Flight of the Conchords Bilboard at the corner of Haight and Steiner St in San Francisco according to the Claremont Courier:
“It hit me. It was a nice, natural frame, and I liked the ambiguity of the street corner. You couldn’t tell what city it was in. I happened to have a gorilla suit, and I felt the urge to start dancing there.”

Six Kiwi-Indian girls have been given the chance to perform with the leading lights of Bollywood including Aditi Bhagwat and Shiva Rindhani.
Sharmista Chakraborty and five other girls from Auckland have joined the cast to perform alongside leading stars of India’s Bollywood film industry in the musical “Dreamgirls of Bollywood”.
“I’m really excited and looking forward to it. It’s something I haven’t done before but I love dancing, I love being on stage,” says Sharmista. The 26-year-old, who emigrated from Kolkata (Calcutta), has been practicing classical Indian dance for over 20 years.

TV star Jessica Tovey stars in Australia’s top soap “Home and Away” but when she’s away in New Zealand she feels right at home.
Tovey, whose father is a Kiwi and mother is author Libby Gleeson, spoke to Sunday News:

Richard Taylor the the Weta Workshop team were honored this week at World Class New Zealand Awards.
Taylor co-founded special effects company Weta Workshop in 1994, along with Tania Rodger and film director Peter Jackson. Taylor has won five Oscars during a career for films such as The Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong and Heavenly Creatures.
The awards were presented on Wednesday night at a gala dinner in Auckland:
For the last 15 years Weta Workshop - a special effects facility of which Taylor co-founded and is the creative director - has created models, makeup and monsters for movies like the Lord of the Rings trilogy and King Kong.

Neither of you are from the UK, so how much knowledge did you have of pirate radio stations before this movie?
Rhys: “We had a pirate station in New Zealand, so I knew of them and their existence. At one point there were up to eight boats outside the legal limit blasting music out, then Radio 1 started and all the pirates seemed to get jobs there and music went mainstream.”

Lord of the Rings’ actor Craig Parker stars in a new series called Diplomatic Immunity on Television New Zealand.
Parker was born in Suva, Fiji. He is most famous for his role as Haldir of Lórien in The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. He also does voice-overs for New Zealand documentaries and has been entertaining and meeting fans at various Lord of the Rings-related conventions for several years - for example, Ring*Con in Germany, which he has attended every year since its creation in 2002. His recent work has also involved voiceover work in the recent Power Rangers series since the filming moved to New Zealand.

It’s about a band of rogue DJs that captivated Britain, playing the music that defined a generation and standing up to a government that was determined to control the air waves. Like a lot of countries (including New Zealand, remember Radio Hauraki), the laws about broadcasting were strickly controlled by licenses, mostly public owned systems.
