A lot of retailers want you to carry their loyalty card in your wallet or purse, but how much are their mysterious points actually worth? We crunched the numbers for seven major Canadian retail loyalty programs to find out.
To come up with our ranking, we calculated how many dollars worth of points you get after presenting your card at the check-out for purchases totalling $100. I can across this thread in the deals section and thought it was something that a lot of people would be interested in. As of January 31, 2010 HBC will no longer be offering merchandise as a reward to redeem your points for. They will continue to offer Gift Cards and Apple products for trade in. The rewards book that was issued in May 2009 will expire on January 31 and products will only be available while quantities last.

Zellers is having their 78th birthday event this week and to celebrate you can earn 78,000 HBC points when you spend $78 on your HBC credit card on Saturday September 26 only. The Birthday flyer will be active for it and there are some Saturday only deals too. And don’t forget you can Price Match at Zellers and use your SPC card too. This is a really good deal if you need something big too, like a comforter or dvd player where getting to the $78 mark would be really easy.

Good news for Canadian (yet American-owned) retail: The venerable but tired Hudson's Bay Co., snapped up just over a year ago by U.S. real estate magnate Richard Baker, is showing new signs of life. The retailer, which had been steadily losing market share for years, is set to double its profit by the end of 2009, Mr. Baker said. The dramatic improvement in the business comes mainly from $300-million of cost-cutting rather than increased sales, he added.
