Many of you know this already, but I got the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to go to the USA – Canada Gold Medal Hockey Game at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.
Words really can’t describe it. I wish I had taken more photos and videos, but it’s hard to do that and really soak it all in. Plus, the battery on my iPhone was dying. But I saw some incredible things. One of the funniest was outside Canada Hockey Place where cops (with guns) were playing street hockey with fans. Presumably they were doing their security duty, but it looked hilarious — and really spoke to the community spirit in Vancouver.
So, I did manage to snap a few photos and a couple of videos. The videos are all essentially the same – scattered, bumpy and loud. Yes, you’ll hear me screaming...

On February 18th, 2010 I’ll be speaking at Internet Marketing Conference in Montreal.
My talk is at the end of the day. I’ll be expanding on my previous presentation on social media and inbound recruiting. Actually, since I know that the speakers before me will spend a good chunk of their time focused on social media marketing to drive sales, brand awareness and customer service, I can probably get on stage and say, “Do what they said, but for recruiting people. Thank you.” Maybe I’ll toss in a few examples too.
The Internet Marketing Conference (IMC) is a 2-day event. On February 17th they do a full day of training. The conference day with speakers is on the 18th. Please note: IMC does cost money ($395 for the conference, $295 for the training, with a...

The Gazette thinks we are having a wave of fire bombings of cafes because there is no dominant crime organization. I thought the police were supposed to prevent this kind of thing. It is very scary. I hope no one gets hurt and these criminals are caught. The string of nine firebomb attacks on cafés, bars and restaurants in Montreal in the last four weeks is an indication of the power vacuum that exists among the city's organized crime factions following a wave of police crackdowns, an expert says."The Montreal underworld is a bit in disarray," said Pierre de Champlain, a former intelligence analyst with the RCMP's criminal intelligence bureau and the author of Mobsters, Gangsters and Men of Honour. "If there was a dominant criminal organization, as there was until recently in Montreal,...
The results of the Montreal election are as good as can be expected. In the choice between a spearatists (harel) a 9/11 truther ( bergeron) and an aloof incompetent, I guess Montrealers made the best choice they could. Let's hope Tremblay gets the message that he needs to do much better. He has already suspended all new contracts for now. The province also seems to be stepping in. I can't say I am happy with the outcome of this election, but at least the separatist was defeated. She was also a massive centralizer and statist. It would be good to cut the size of city government. Inefficiency and corruption flow from large government...
I am so disgusted by Montreal election that I will probably not vote. I haven't done this in many many years. I always vote. The corruption charges were the final straw. Tremblay is arrogant and incompetent, harel is a separatist who doesn't even pretend to speak English. The third candidate is a 9/11 truther. Then all the corruption allegations. What a choice.Robert Wagner, long-time mayor of New York City, was a politician's politician. He had a formula for tight situations. As revealed by his son at his funeral in 1991, it went: "When in danger, ponder. When in trouble, delegate. When in doubt, mumble." Magnificent. It worked well enough to give Bob Wagner 11 years in office in New York. Might the same approach commend itself to our own mayor of Montreal, the beleaguered Gérald...
I had a very busy day yesterday. President Bush at lunch and Ezra Levant at dinner.Ezra was in town esterday talking at the Ezra gave an impassioned plea for freedom of speech and gave the history of the hrc thought police in Canada. He also discussed jihadi lawfare and the hrcs. He gave credit to his many supporters in helping survive the hrc and warman onslaught. It was an enthusiastic and supportive crowd. I have heard Ezra speak about these issue many times, but I am always struck by his passion and the injustice that he fights against. It was obvious from the questions that Ezra has many Montreal fans who understand the Tyranny of Nice..Dinner was great. The Ferreira has great food and the conversation was fascinating and lively. Barbara Kay joined us for dinner. We also discussed...
Macdonald aslo writes about the Bush Speech. I did see him yesterday, but didn't have a chance to say hello. The riot squad, including police on horseback, kept the protesters at a distance, and inside the packed ballroom of the Queen E., Bush was greeted with a standing ovation, the first of three during his presentation. The word on Bush on the speakers' circuit is that he's a surprisingly engaged, animated and good humoured performer. Even people who don't like him end up liking him."I believe in free speech, except for today," he began, to appreciative laughter. He was on a roll. Here is a report from President Bush's speech in Saskatoon. President Bush also urged the US governement to sell its interests in the banks and GM. And he was given a Pro Life Award as was noted by one of my...
I just returned home from meeting George W. Bush at the Queen Elizabeth hotel in Montreal. When he shook my hand he asked about my tie and I told him it was a Monarchist league of Canada tie. He smiled. I also was able to have another photo with him and I reminded of our last meeting in Toronto , he replied that he had a lot of fun in Toronto.1000 people came to hear president Bush and they were not disappointed. President Bush is very funny, self deprecating and passionate. Apparently 200 people protested outside. I didn't see any of them . By the time I left the driving rain had washed their presence away.President Bush gave a brief overview of his administration in a 45 minute speech. He defended his decisions to invade Iraq and gave a ringing defence of freedom and democracy. he...
The Segal Theater is putting on Inherit the Wind. It is a marvelous production with stellar acting. The play based on the scopes monkey trial still has some interesting things to say. The most important message is of course freedom of ithought and freedom to believe in what we like. To me that is God's greatest gift. The play will be on until November 8, 2009. You really should try and see it....

Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC), the venerable Canadian mountaineering and outdoorsy retail cooperative that I’ve been a member of for almost 25 years, keeps making mistakes. The mistakes are in where they decide to put their retail stores — at least when it comes to Montreal.
The first Montreal area MEC store opened in 2003, way up at Marché Centrale on Boulevard L’Acadie. To people from the ROC (Rest Of Canada), “Marché Centrale” probably sounds pretty central, and from the perspective of a map it sort of is if you were to erroneously consider Laval to be part of Montreal. But ask any youthful and outdoorsy Montrealers if they’ve ever been to Marché Centrale and you’ll get either a blank look or a grimace.
Marché Centrale, I’ll have you...

This should be interesting. President Bush will be here in leftist Montreal. Wonder if the loonies will manage bugger protests than the anemic ones in Toronto.MONTREAL- Former U.S. president George W. Bush is coming to Montreal on October 22, The Gazette has learned. He will be speaking at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel.Although the event is a private by-invitation-only luncheon, tickets will be made available through various sponsors.A high-profile moderator is expected to be appointed in the coming days.A question period is to be held at the end of the luncheon engagement.tinePUBLIC Inc, the Canadian firm that booked Bush for his first speaking event since leaving office last January, is the same firm that is bringing the controversial former president to Montreal....
Its just for laughs season again ion Montreal so far I have seen Nasty Girls and the ,a Ethnic Heroes of Comedy. The nasty girls was a litany of expletives not deleted and very sexual. My favourite was Nikki Payne a young Newf who recently gave a kidney to her dad. I enjoyed the ethnic heroes show particularly the MC....
Earl Jones seems to have cheated even his immediate family including his wife and children. Though some investors wonder about the role of his wife in all this.He no longer seems to be missing. What a terrible betrayal.MONTREAL -- Earl Jones is in Canada but fears for his safety and is remaining out of sight for the time being, his lawyer says. The Montreal financier's whereabouts have been a mystery since allegations emerged in the last weeks that he had been running a Ponzi scheme that cost dozens of investors their life savings.Jeffrey Boro, a Montreal defence lawyer, told The Gazette that Mr. Jones hired him after learning that police had searched his offices in the Montreal suburb of Pointe Claire.Mr. Boro said other than a brief trip to the U.S. to see one of his daughters, Mr. Jones...
It seems the originator of the Ponzi scheme had lived in Montreal ( he learned his craft in Montreal) and spent jail time in Quebec. An interesting story. From the wreckage, it emerged that Ponzi had been offering 30-per-cent interest over just 45 days, or about 240 per cent annually without compounding. Absurd as such a return was, some 40,000 people handed him anywhere from $13 million to $20 million. A U.S. federal auditor estimated Ponzi had $7 million in liabilities, about $76.5 million in today's money, but just $4 million in assets. The speed with which the bubble inflated is testimony to his customers' astonishing gullibility and greed....

There are lots of things to like about Montreal - the nightlife, restaurants, cafes, parks, shopping, et al - but the thing that has really impressed me over the past week has been a system called Bixi that lets people use bicycles when needed.
There are stations scattered throughout downtown Montreal where you can pick up a bicycle, travel to where you want to go, and then park it at another station. The system, which can be accessed and monitored online (that’s the technology angle here!) can tell where you pick and drop off a bicycle, along with how many kilometers it’s been used. Since Bixi’s launch a few months ago, more than 1,000,000 kilometers have been racked up. Now, that’s impressive!
It was thought that Bixi would be particularly popular with tourists...

Every year in late spring, the mayflies swarm out of the St. Lawrence river and cover the city of Montreal in a blanket of fluttering wings. It lasts for a few days and then they are gone. Fortunately, mayflies don’t bite or sting. Their only annoyance comes from their sheer numbers and their absolute stupidity. All they do is show up and flutter, flutter, flutter, tirelessly and endlessly. They cover our cars and busses, they darken our windows, and they circle round and round your head until you think you’re going to lose your mind.
Last Friday evening I was holding court at Verses Sky, the terrace on the roof of the Hotel Nelligan in old Montreal. Everything was fine until about 7:30 PM, and then, as if someone flipped a switch, mayfly season opened.
Did I mention...
The grits had a fundraiser with iggy yesterday, and according to the Globe and Mail 1000 people showed up. This is less than half the number the Tories had at their May 17, 2009 fundraiser with HM PM Harper. The Tories had more people at their fundraiser than the grits had at the iggy coronation. The grits Montreal turnout is not very impressive considering English Montreal voted solidly grit in the last several elections. eat your heart out jane taber and the other divisions of the grit msm propaganda machine....
