Good via Dr Roy's Thoughts July 4th, 2010 at 21:01

I had dinner with fellow Blogging Tory Luca Manfredi. ( It was kind of a Blogging Tory day. I met up with Christian Conservative , who was visiting Montreal with his family, earlier in the Day) I was telling him that I thought HM PM Cameron would not campaign against the new voting scheme. We both agreed there would be a backbench revolt. Luca thought HM PM Cameron would campaign against in the referendum and he was correct. I dislike the new voting scheme and I suspect most of HM UK subjects will vote no. Next, a referendum on the lisbon treaty!!! David Cameron will campaign against changing the voting system, his spokesman said, in a referendum expected next May. His spokesman said the PM would be asked his view and "clearly his view is that he's not in favour of it". An agreement...

Treasonous via Dr Roy's Thoughts June 16th, 2010 at 00:56

Vile pigs. Let all the world see them for what they are. They protest at the homecoming of HM Soldiers. These people make me sick. The hour-long parade had been delayed due to growing tensions between the two sides, with anti-Mac protestors singing God Save the Queen and drinkers at a nearby pub hurling frozen pork sausages at the Muslims. Moments after the soldiers passed through tensions reached boiling point and the anti-Mac campaigners broke through the barricades, charged across the road and traded punches with the Muslim throng. Police quickly separated the mob, with one man wrestled to the ground, handcuffed and led away while the police made a ring surrounding the Muslim group. They then had to hold back the anti-Muslim group as the Mac protesters made their way to a tube...

HM UK PM David Cameron via Dr Roy's Thoughts May 11th, 2010 at 21:30

I am glad the Tories have sent gordon brown packing. he was truly a nasty little man. I have my doubts about David Cameron, but I am willing to give him a chance. The challenges facing the United Kingdom are indeed daunting. I wish our Tory cousins in the United Kingdom, the best of luck. I urge them to watch out for the duplicitous lib dems. I would have preferred a minority government. There is much HM UK PM can learn from HM Canadian PM Stephen Harper. I don't expect this coalition to last but I suspect the Tories will eventually rule as a minority for a while. Conservative opposition leader David Cameron became British Prime Minister today hours after Labour's Gordon Brown resigned in another day of political drama. Mr. Cameron said he would be forming a coalition with Liberal...

HM ex PM gordon brown via Dr Roy's Thoughts April 29th, 2010 at 15:48

labour and gordon brown have been a disaster for the people of the United Kingdom. gordon brown has contempt for the average pensioner who actually votes for labour. Imagine what he says about other average voters. This should finish off the brownian nightmare. Of course we see the leftist elites saying he should called this woman a bigot to her face. Fortunately this happened live, Mrs Duffy might have benn questioned by new lanbour's thought police otherwise. I hope the Tories can manage an absolute majority, because the lib dems aren't much better than labour....

More separatist nonsense via Dr Roy's Thoughts February 27th, 2010 at 00:37

No, not in Quebec but Scotland. The same double dealing we expect from Quebec separatists seem to have rubbed off on the snp. Why can't they ask should Scotland be an independent country. Because they would lose. Even with this question they will lose. Ivison proposes a clarity act for the UK. Not a bad idea. The nationalist government in Scotland unveiled its plans for a referendum on independence yesterday and the results are as clear as Scotch mist. The Scottish National Party, under leader "Smart" Alex Salmond, has contrived a deeply cynical two-question referendum that must have Quebec separatists green with envy. The first question would ask Scots if they back increased powers for the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh. So far, so good. The second question would then ask people if they...

Little support for Scottish Independence via Dr Roy's Thoughts November 25th, 2009 at 08:39

Even new labour can’t deal with the postal union via Dr Roy's Thoughts October 18th, 2009 at 14:20

American would defend us via Dr Roy's Thoughts September 10th, 2009 at 00:47

We really are the American's best friends and closest allies. 78% of Americans poll would defend us if there was an attack. Great Britain comes a close second. France doesn't fare so well in this Rasmussen poll. The Anglosphere is alive and kicking. We should have a free trade deal among the countries of the Anglosphere including India. In first place in terms of countries America should assist is Canada. Seventy-eight percent (78%) favor aiding our northern neighbor in the event of an attack, and just 16% disagree.Next comes Great Britain, but then it’s been more than two centuries since America fought its way free of the Mother Country. Seventy-three percent (73%) think the United States should provide military help for Britain if it is attacked, but nearly one-in-five Americans (18%)...

jihadis in UK on the loose via Dr Roy's Thoughts September 9th, 2009 at 12:40

Dozens of jihadi terrorists are being released by the United Kingdom, that should make us all feel safer. The militants, convicted for terror offences including plots to kill British soldiers, are being placed in hostels across Britain that usually deal with the rehabilitation of drug dealers or burglars.A report in The Sun said one third of the 120 convicted of Islamic terrorist offences since 1999 had already been released from jail having served their sentence, while another 50 will soon be out. The newspaper said those due for release include al-Qaeda trained Sohail Qureshi, 31, who was given a four-and-a-half year jail term after being arrested in October 2006 with night-vision goggles, £9,000 in cash and military kit. Also among those schedule for freedom is Andrew Rowe, 38, a Muslim...

Freedom versus safety via Dr Roy's Thoughts August 24th, 2009 at 16:54

It is quite intimidating that London and many Uk cities have so many cctvs. It is an invasion of privacy and it seems to have little benefit. I would prefer not to be filmed many times a day by cameras for the state. I hope Canada doesn't take this approach.A senior Scotland Yard officer, Detective Chief Inspector Mick Neville, warned police must do more to head off a crisis in public confidence over the use of surveillance cameras.DCI Neville said officers need to improve their results to make captured images count against criminals. He said there are more than a million CCTV cameras in London and the Government has spent £500 million on the crime-fighting equipment. But he admitted just 1,000 crimes were solved in 2008 using CCTV images as officers fail to make the most of potentially...

United via Dr Roy's Thoughts August 9th, 2009 at 15:34

Daniel Hannan has an interesting on how perhaps America could have remained in the Empire. Apparently Benjamin Franklin wanted an Imperial constitution. The implications are fascinating. But perhaps best of all was Franklin. Underneath the homespun PR façade, he understood both England and America quite well (France too, which is why he was so effective there.) He spent so much of his life in London that he really should be considered a great Londoner. He had a very clear-minded picture of what American and Britain could do together if only they could create an effective constitution for it - and spent a great deal of his life trying to create such an Imperial constitution and promote it in England. He only gave up at the very end, and went home to make the best of an independent...

Unacceptable via Dr Roy's Thoughts July 3rd, 2009 at 19:01

That's what William Hague calls the decision of the murderous mullahs to try 2 members of the staff of the UK Embassy in Iran. I agree. The allies of the UK should all withdraw their ambassadors from this rogue regime as a minimum. The regime is beginning to be isolated.Hague calls for release of UK Embassy staff arrested in IranFriday, July 3 2009William Hague has described the prospect of British Embassy staff being put on show trials in Iran as “utterly unacceptable”.The Shadow Foreign Secretary stressed that the harassment of Embassy staff was “a violation of diplomatic norms and conventions” and called for the immediate release of those still being detained in Tehran.“This is a matter of principle and we should be able to expect solidarity and a united response from other...

Is Gordon Brown Toast? via Dr Roy's Thoughts June 4th, 2009 at 22:57

Things have been disastrous lately for Gordon Brown. Today yet another cabinet minister and this one called for Brown's resignation. Local and European elections should be a disaster for labour and the economy is in free fall. If Brown resigns ( and he won't) any new leader of labour will be under enormous pressure to hold elections. If elections are held labour will be annihilated. Good riddance.Pressure on PM as minister quitsMr Purnell called on Mr Brown to 'stand aside'James Purnell has stepped down from the cabinet and told Prime Minister Gordon Brown to "stand aside".In a letter to the Sun and the Times, the work and pensions secretary said he was not seeking the leadership but wanted to trigger a debate.Mr Purnell is the third cabinet member to announce in the past few days they...

new labour in big trouble via Dr Roy's Thoughts May 1st, 2009 at 15:26

It seems new labour in the United Kingdom is united in thinking they are doomed. ( h/t) Everybody else already knew that.Ken Livingstone wins today's Private Fraser award for services to party optimism. The former Mayor has told Nick Ferrari on LBC Radio that Labour now appears to be united in thinking the Government is "doomed".Nick Ferrari: "Where does Brown go now? In your view, how bad is it?"Ken Livingstone: "I wouldn’t bet my own money on Labour winning...The thing that is a weakness for Brown at the moment, his most fervent supporters, people like Bob Marshall-Andrews, who’ve all been saying 'when he gets in he’ll blossom, he will be great', now saying he has had it, he’s finished and Bob Marshall-Andrews saying he doesn’t find anyone who, I mean, all the party is united...

Cameron on EU via Dr Roy's Thoughts March 12th, 2009 at 11:34

image I was talking to Roger Helmer a Tory member of the EU about the Leader of HM Loyal Opposition in the UK, David Cameron. I saikd he was a wet and not particularly Tory. Helmer replied that Cameron was indeed conservative. I remain somewhat unconvinced, especially given his comments on Grammar schools, however this is positive news. As one of the Europeans I met in NYC said, the EU would be OK without the European parliament. If a referendum had been held in the UK( as promised!) on the Treaty of Lisbon, it would have been defeated. Labour is saying that the Tories will be the lunatic fringe. I guess that's true since labour seems to no longer believe in democracy. The Tories still have a massive lead over the reviled Gordon Brown. He will almost certainly win the next electgions in a...

Being British via Canuckistani in Limey Land February 10th, 2009 at 14:55

image So I finally bit the bullet and handed over the £700 it takes to become a citizen of this country… erm collection of states… kingdom… uh whatever it is. It’s only just now at this very second as I typed that first line that I realised I have no idea what Great Britain actually is. It’s not a country, it’s a collection of countries… well not exactly, because Wales and Northern England aren’t actually countries and come to think of it, Scotland doesn’t actually count as its own country either, does it? According to Wikipedia, "Great Britain is the political term describing the political union of the kingdoms of England and Scotland made on 1 May, 1707 under Queen Anne of England". That sounds good and all, but how...

Bankrupt Britain via Dr Roy's Thoughts January 21st, 2009 at 15:07

image Gordon Brown and Labour is driving Britain into the ground. The Tories will have a lot to fix. They don't know what they're doing, do they? With every step taken by the Government as it tries frantically to prop up the British banking system, this central truth becomes ever more obvious.Yesterday marked a new low for all involved, even by the standards of this crisis. Britons woke to news of the enormity of the fresh horrors in store. Despite all the sophistry and outdated boom-era terminology from experts, I think a far greater number of people than is imagined grasp at root what is happening here. The country stands on the precipice. We are at risk of utter humiliation, of London becoming a Reykjavik on Thames and Britain going under. Thanks to the arrogance, hubristic strutting and...

Learning from the UK and Canada via Dr Roy's Thoughts November 23rd, 2008 at 16:16

image An interesting article praising HM PM Stephen Harper and the Leader of HM Loyal Opposition David Cameron on how they have rebuilt the conservative party in Canada and the United States. Is this the way the GOP should take? I'm not sure the US is very different than either of its cousins in the Anglosphere, but the GOP should study their smaller cousins. It may not be the only way for the GOP, but it may be a way. The authour is somewhat optimistic about how conservative principle have not been abandoned, but he is right that the Tories in Canada are more conservative than most of the old PCs. I hope the grits are reading this.Regardless of where you stand on the issues, it is hard to see how the moderate strategy of purging conservatism and running to the center could work. Their supposed...

The Gurkhas via Dr Roy's Thoughts September 30th, 2008 at 22:13

image The legendary Gurkha regiments have served the Sovereign for hundreds of years. They have shown unwaverung loyalty and bravery. So I am very glad about this decision.Gurkhas' last victory is belated but very welcomePosted By: Gerald Warner at Sep 30, 2008 at 17:43:49 [General]So unusual is it for a British court of law to hand down a sensible judgement that accords with justice and national honour that, when such a blue-moon event occurs, one's first instinct is to re-read the text very carefully to see if one has misunderstood. This was the case when I saw today's welcome ruling from the High Court that the 2,000 Gurkha soldiers formerly excluded now have a right to settle in this country. That is welcome news.Unfortunately, seven of the applicants have died while waiting for justice;...

Darymple on UK kids via Dr Roy's Thoughts August 30th, 2008 at 20:03

image I met Theodore Darymple at Civitas a few years ago. he is a psychiatrist and well suited to comment on the results of the nanny state. This portrait of childhood in the UK is frightening. The results of this kind of childrearing remind me of the gangs in a Clockwork Orange.Britain is the worst country in the Western world in which to be a child, according to a recent UNICEF report. Ordinarily, I would not set much store by such a report; but in this case, I think it must be right -- not because I know so much about childhood in all the other 20 countries examined, but because the childhood that many British parents give to their offspring is so awful that it is hard to conceive of worse, at least on a mass scale. The two poles of contemporary British child-rearing are neglect and...

image Gordon Brown's fortunes go from bad to worse. David Cameron needs to be bold and propose big tax and spending cuts! I'd like our Tories do do that as well!Tories must cut tax and spending Last Updated: 12:01am BST 24/08/2008Britain had enjoyed more than a decade of uninterrupted growth when David Cameron and George Osborne first promised to "share the proceeds of growth" between state spending and tax cuts. But it emerged last week that, during the most recent quarter, the rate of growth in the British economy was zero. Many economists now predict that our national wealth may soon actually start to contract. It means that the Conservatives need to rethink their policy on public spending, for if they stick to their promise, a Conservative government will be unable to cut taxes....
