The Vancouver 2010 Olympic cauldron will be re-lit for Canada Day 2010 once a few renovations are complete.
The site is surrounded by a fence and the distinctive 2010 blue-and-green hoarding that once surrounded all Olympic venues. The redesign will include a reflecting pool with a map of Canada showing the torch relay route under the cauldron. Benches for people to sit will surround the perimeter. [Vancouver Sun]

The flame will also burn for other special occasions yet to be determined, some say Remembrance Day in November is already on the list....

Yesterday I received a copy of the official 2010 Winter Games commemorative book, which probably has one of the longest titles I’ve seen: With Glowing Hearts: The Official Commemorative Book of the XXI Olympic Winter Games and the X Paralympic Winter Games/Des plus brillants exploits: Le livre commémoratif officiel des XXIes Jeux olympiques d hiver et des Xes Jeux paralympiques d hiver.
Cracking open the hardcover I was met with a quote from John Furlong that immediately choked me up. All that I felt during the Olympics and Paralympics came rushing back. It was much more than emotion, sometimes it was even the stress of covering a global event in my backyard for 14 hours a day (which was all completely worth it).
The pages in this book and the beautiful photography evoke a sense...

The Olympic and Paralympic Countdown Clock in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery was a symbol of the Olympic Games for many. It ticked away the months, days, hours, minutes and seconds of anticipation for what became the largest global party this city has ever seen.

At first it was an eyesore for some, then it soon became something so much more. It was vandalized, it was a shadow cast on a homeless man in need of shade, it was a meeting point, a melting pot of emotion, and a celebration site. Now that the Games are over, the fate of the clock is uncertain.

The City of Vancouver is releasing several of its 2010 Olympic and Paralympic street banners to local non-profits who wish to use them for fundraising.
Non-profit organizations are encouraged to fill out applications for use of the banners to propose how they would use them for fundraising. The city is specifically looking for campaigns that would benefit the Downtown Eastside, Downtown South and Mount Pleasant.

You can view a PDF of the banners and download the PDF application form on the City’s site. Deadline for submissions is May 19th, 2010....
