defeat abernathy! via Dr Roy's Thoughts September 4th, 2010 at 01:07

The council in clarington are still at it. It seems Mayor Abernathy doesn't think LSS can be held anymore. It's time to throw abernathy and dalton out. Mayor Marta sounds good to me. Premier Hudak als sounds good. While the municipality’s representatives were eager to have my mom and dad begin the process by paying the fees they cannot afford, the mayor told the Clarington This Week reporter that a zoning change would still make it “doubtful” that the Liberty Summer Seminar could be hosted on my parents’ property: Mayor Abernethy said even if the Jaworskis go through the zoning amendment process, it’s unlikely the change would be allowed for the summer liberty seminar. The municipality has to implement the provincial policies dictated in the Green Belt Act and Oak Ridges...

Margaret Atwood is a censor via Dr Roy's Thoughts September 3rd, 2010 at 22:09

I haven't read anything by atwood in a long time. she is a lefty and i long ago tired of her. her latest attempts to promote censorship against SunTv News confirm that she is an arrogant small minded leftist egomaniac. Thanks for exposing yourself meg. So dear Margaret, a word of advice: Please stick to writing fiction. None of the other causes you espoused got anywhere anyway. Free trade has been with us for thirty years, helping enrich the readers who buy your books; the Green Party still doesn’t have a seat in the House of Commons; and the Bloc hasn’t managed to separate Quebec from the rest of the country. Come to think of it, the foes of SunTV shouldn’t want you on their team: you’ll just bring them bad luck....

A Little Night Music via Dr Roy's Thoughts September 3rd, 2010 at 21:00

I have seen A little night Music many times. I couldn't resist this production with Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch, two of my Broadway favourites. It was an amazing evening. Peters and Stritch were wonderful, but the entire cast wast stellar. I love SAondheim and I love the song Send in the Clowns. It was a truly magical evening. What a great way to end my visit to NYC....

Toronto real estate market slips 22% via Toronto Real Estate Blog September 3rd, 2010 at 16:38

August Sales and New Listings Down, Prices Up Greater Toronto Realtors® reported 6,232 sales through the Multiple Listing Service® (MLS®) in August 2010. This represented a 22 per cent decrease compared to the 8,035 sales recorded during the same period in 2009. New listings decreased by 1% year-over-year to 10,488. "The prospect of interest rate hikes and new mortgage lending rules prompted some households to purchase a home sooner than they otherwise would have this year. The result has been a larger than normal dip in sales over the summer months. With this said, it is important to recognize that sales on the year were eight per cent higher than in 2009," said Toronto Real Estate Board President Bill Johnston. The average price for August transactions was $411,012 . up...

This is what I read this week: Kenneth J. Arrow: Understanding Uncertainty and Its Role in the World Economy The Journal of Risk Analysis profiles Kenneth J. Arrow, the brilliant economist who brought us the concept of ‘moral hazard’. One of the fundamental shortcomings of the human condition is the ability to estimate, quantify and measure risk. More Coverage of Reseau Liberte Quebec/ Quebec Freedom Network via Dr Roy's Thoughts September 3rd, 2010 at 13:05

We continue to have great coverage of RLQ. Eric Duhaime and I were on Tommy Schnurmacher on CJAD. The National Post and Canada.com gave us good coverage as well. I am quoted in the Canada.com story. The Canada.Com article should be picked up across Canada. It is already in the Montreal Gazette. OTTAWA — A group of six Quebecers is trying to start a conservative-libertarian movement in the province that they hope will redefine Quebec nationalism — without including sovereignty. The Quebec Freedom Network's six founders live across the province and have all been active in political conservative circles. The group's first course of action is a daylong conference in Quebec City at the end of October which they hope will unite the province's political right. Co-founder Dr. Roy Eappen,...

tracing one warm tangential line via unlocking the air September 3rd, 2010 at 04:24

The headline I saw was Fuel tanker runs aground in Northwest Passage . Back when I first moved to Canada, some of my friends felt that my education needed expanding, to put it mildly. When at the end of an evening of supper and merriment our guest Judy began singing Northwest Passage, and Nola joined in, I knew I was missing something. What are you on about? I asked. Judy stared. Didn't I know? "The Northwest Passage is the whole reason Canada exists." Nola nodded. I set out to do a bit of reading, that culminated a year and half later with a new appreciation for the strange and wonderful echoes of human endeavour, and more particularly a fondness for the St Roch and her captain, Henry Larsen. Which matters for why? Well, for why this: the Coast Guard ship detailed to deal with the...
